Select DVD recorder box Can't Post

I need help selecting a DVD recorder box. I just recently stopped cable TV at our home. I would like to buy a DVD recorder with about 100 hours of recording for my kids. Can you please tell me if I can record rented DVDs on my box for home use only ?

If I play the rented DVD on my TV , why can't I record it on my box ? Is there any legal issues with that ? Thank you in advance for your comments and help.

Please recommend a box that is reasonably priced.
PS, I do not want to spend hours and hours to select KIDS appropriate material for them to watch. Can anyone suggest an easier way of clicking on movies and have it downloaded to the DVD recorder box?

Well if you look around there are plenty of DVD set-top recorders. You would need one with an internal hard drive. Panasonic makes a nice one.
As for recording rented DVDs, plain and simple is that is illegal. Playing it is one thing, but making a copy of it for future recordings is another. There is no way that I know of to just click on material and have it go to the recorder without playing it in realtime.

I would recommend that maybe go to some flea markets or look on ebay and buy your kids a bunch of cheap VHS or DVDs. VHS is still worth watching, especially for kids who in most cases don't care about the quality. If you have a Family Video near by, they do free rentals of kids videos.

Good luck,
