Sony V1U/FX7 - Wide Angle Lens a Must? Can't Post

For all you V1U/FX7 users shooting weddings, do you find a WA lens a must-have with this camera? The lens doesn't seem to go very wide, but the FX7 is almost in my price range. But spending another $300-$500 on this camera seems a waste, when you could almost get an FX1 for that price, which doesn't need a WA lens IMHO.

Also, Sony lists the V1U Wide Angle lens with a lens hood, which they say is made specifically for the Z1U. Is there ANY reason the WA and hood wouldn't fit on the FX7? The actual WA lens looks to be the exact same one they sell for the FX7/Z1U....MINUS the hood (and minus $200)...but I would for sure want the model with the hood!

It's this one:

Thanks! I've got about $2100 saved up for a new cam, and HAVE to buy SOMETHING tomorrow, or rental charges will break me by the end of the month again. The FX7 looks like the best workable solution right now, despite not having XLR inputs or 24p and small sensors....but it's cheap. That's all I care about.

I don't own the FX1 or FX7 cameras but do have 3 Z1U's and 2 V1U's, all w/ the Sony WA lenses. I think they're very important to have in tight spaces. I don't know if the V1U WA will fit on the FX7 (the guess would be that it'd work) but I have no idea. What I can tell you, though, is that the WA for the V1U is a very good lens and am very glad I bought it. Call Sony and ask them...they're really good at helping.

Thanks, I was hoping you'd chime in.

I assume the bayonet mounts are identical on the FX7 and V1U, since they sell the identical $300 Sony WA lens for them. Just thought it was wierd as they list the $500 WA+hood package as only for the Z1U...I guess that's just a marketing thing. Since it seems to be the same exact lens as the $300 one, and the hood attaches to the lens, I don't see how it wouldn't work on the FX7. I'll give Sony a call before dropping the cash. Cool

let me know what they say, if you call. the bayonet is great w/ the v1u...i also have a raynox fisheye w/ the v1u and it's awesome (screw-in, though). What's also nice about the WA is that you can detach it w/ the lens shade, which is good when swapping as the lens can be partially covered. I personally don't like the inner screw threads of the Z1U as I've had lenses get stuck. I actually had to send a camera back to Sony as the threads were crossed - they sent me a whole new lens and everything - awesome.

Awesome, I guess that means it should fit the FX7 with no problem.

I finally got paid this morning, and got my FX7 ordered...will be here in the morning! Yay! No more freaking rental cams!!!!

BUT, my darned PayPal Business MasterCard Check Card has a daily limit of $3000, so I wasn't able to get the WA adapter....which is probably a good thing....at least I'll be able to buy food this weekend. Laugh I'm going to try and shoot this weekend without the WA.

B&H has been taunting me all week....on a daily basis they raise and lower the price of the FX7 by $100!! And of course, as soon as I get paid, they instantly raise the price. Laugh It's been in my B&H Shopping Cart for a week...and B&H probably has a permanent hack into my PayPal account, and know to raise prices whenever they see I get paid. Laugh Sucks to be desperate....paid $100 more than necessary....plus overnight shipping.
