Viewing HDV on external monitor Can't Post

Hi All:
I am about to edit my first HDV video. I have it all captured and loaded. My question is this. Is it possible to view my footage on an external LCD monitor?
My set up is as follows. FCP 5.0.2 on a G5 dual 2 gig, with 2 gig ram.I have firewired out to a Sony HVR-M10U and then component to a Sony Wega LCD, bu am unable to view my footage on the monitor.
Thanks

This is because you can't send HDV down the firewire cable and decode in realtime like you do with DV. You need a DVI to component adapter to send it to your monitor, and your monitor needs to be HD if you're wanting to see everything as it really is, although you can preview in SD if you need to.

Your monitor doesn't have to be a "HD" monitor just a PC monitor that supports DVI and at a high rez 1280 or more

Anything that has resolution greater than 576 is considered "HD capable" even if it's not 1280 x 720. However, if you're doing 1080i/p, you'll want a 1900 x 1200 monitor, or else you're only seeing part of the image. In other words, your pixels are scaled. This can be a big deal when color correcting.
There is no difference between HD and computer monitors any longer. That's part of the whole point of HD, it is the same colorspace. (ITU 709)
