XBOX 360 ! Can't Post

My husband buyed the XBOX 360 and I was really impressed with its HD playback capability.

It had some video samples like a commercial from Adidas, some extracts from Titanic, a small documentary of the making of 360, and a video from snow sports.

then we played some streamimg video from our home computer with Microsoft Media Center and it played very well some samples downloaded from wmvhd.com in 720p as well as 1080 resolution.

My guestion is, what other formats can xbox 360 media center play? I have a lot of problem in converting HDV from Final Cut timeline to WMV format on a G5 dual mac, its so slow and we have already delivered HD to our clients in DivX 720p which the 360 cant play (why????) but almost any computer can.

Sounds like the Xbox 360 doesn't come with the DivX playback codec installed, which may or may not be something you can do yourself. It's just a fact of life for now that it takes time to convert HDV to Windows Media HD on even the fastest computers, so you could try offloading that task to an older machine and let it run overnight.

GOOD NEWS! A NEW DISCOVERY TO SHARE !

my husband found a way to playback DIVx (not HD) with a program called "encoder"

AND FOR HD.... he installed another program to Windows XP Media Center Edition that makes it able to playback MPG-2 1080i TS files by streaming to XBOX360

So this is it ! now we can export HDV timeline to its native MPG2 1080i format without losing any detail and be able to playback in XBOX360 and at the same time we have our clients videos prepared for the HDDVD or BLURAY discs ...

But note that if you have a Windows Media Center computer with an HD output on the video card, you could stream HD content directly to an HDTV and not need an Xbox 360 to do that. This should be a commonly available feature of the new "Viiv" multimedia computer platform, so just buy a Viiv box with an HD output and you're good to go.

the situation is that my home computer is a 4 year old DELL and is incapable to playback 1080 high definition files but it streams the data over the network via media center and xbox does the graphic processing...

is a good alternative for old or slow home computers (and with a total gamer husband :)
