16:9 (16 to 9) in FCP Can't Post

I shot an event with 16:9 on my PD170. I imported it as Anamorphic 16:9 (16 by 9) in FCP. I know now that it isn't true 16:9 so I messed up there but is there anyway to salvage the edit without reimporting all of the footage????

I am on a deadline. I tried squishing it in DVD Studio Pro but I get the interlaced lines upon movement. I tried exporting it as Anamorphic in QT but I get errors.

Can anyone shed some light and save me???

I read but didn't respond to your post on another forum because Tim was telling you the straight scoop, plus I don't do much 16:9 work, he does.

My opinion is you need to bite the bullet and re-capture correctly. If you logged and captured on the first go-round, you have the correct timecodes so you may be able to short-cut the process.

Another possibility might be in exporting an EDL and changing the format, if this is possible, you'll preserve the edit info. I say this tentatively because I haven't tried it.

I understand the deadline thing, we've all been there. But fixing it will probably take longer than recapturing the source and probably still won't be exactly right.

My best guess (this is just a guess): Move or hide your original capture, recapture to files named exactly as the browser expects. Then set your original project sequence settings to the correct 4:3 settings and try to re-link the media. this would effectively replace all the footage with the correct format. If this doesn't work, at this point you have the correct footage and you can create a new project and use the original project sequences as a reference. This should speed things somewhat.

Sorry I don't have more, but it seems an early error is the cause.

You may also want to pose this question at lafcpug.org, but that will take time too.

Thanks. I am coming to terms with recapturing. I will try the EDL export/import and the reconnect media to see if that works first. If not, I will re-edit the whole thing. It should be faster since I've done it already.

Uggg!

Thanks for all of your help.
