Another Widescreen Question Can't Post

i've been searching, and i know this was recently discussed, but I cant find exactly what I'm looking for.
I just shot a wedding on my DVX100a in letterbox mode, not squeeze. I did it without having any idea on how to turn it into a final product. (dumb, I know).
How do you make it so it fills a WS tv and letterboxes in a 4:3?
I exported and burned in 16:9 and it shows up letterbox on widescreen TV. Not with the bars on the sides, and not with a stretched look.
How does it do that, why wouldn't it either fill the whole widescreen, or stretch?
Confused.
FCP HD, DVDsp3

First, you should have used Squeeze mode. Letterbox mode automatically puts the black bars. Squeeze lets you do true anamorphic in FCP. So, Letterbox is Letterbox, black bars on top and bottom in 4:3, not true anamorphic 16:9. So, that's what you're pretty much stuck with, since Letterbox is 4:3 with black bars on top and bottom.
