Okay, so it sucks being a newbie wannabe FCP editor. So I thought I'd mention some of the mistakes I'm making during these first days in the hopes that it might help someone else down the road. Let's see... what was yesterdays problem? Oh yes, yesterday I wanted to: Capture an Entire Tape Using Capture Now. So I set it up as I normally would in a Premiere Pro project, I set my in mark and my out mark and clicked the "Capture Now" button. and the capture window opened and just sat there telling me it was waiting on the time-code (or something like that) Well after going crazy trying everything I could think of, I did the unthinkable.... I got the book out and it said: When you’re ready to begin capturing, do one of the following: - Click the Play button. - Press the Space bar. Click the Capture Now button. Hmmmm, that was to easy Today I lost my timeline and my canvas for about 2 hours. After googling my problem, I discovered that I had accidently deleted my one and only sequence. Apparently if there is no sequence, there won't be any canvas either. Makes sense I guess, well it does now anyway. Ya think that's why FCP creates a new sequence when it creates a new project? Come to think of it, Premiere Pro creates a new sequence when you first create a project.... but I don't ever recall loosing a couple windows over it... maybe I never deleted the one and only sequence. Surely these are common mistakes that all newbies make? Hello? _____________________________ Ron Priest - Louisville KY New Website/Blog Live StudioCam
