Blu-ray Encoding in Compressor Can't Post

I was watching a Podcast where Brian Gary talks with Alex About Blu-ray encoding in Compressor. (You can find it here)

http://itunes.apple.com/...Podcast?id=210862282

So I was wondering encodes their M2V Blu-ray files in Compressor?

I use compressor, but never sure if I have the right settings or not.

Yeah, that's what I'm trying to figure out myself. The podcast was informative, but not all inclusive.

I crank the bit rate as high as possible & still fit the material to a single BD-R. Our disks tend to be an hour or less, so I encode at the max 40mbs for mpeg-2 or 24.99 for h.264. Of course, the original HDV footage is only 25mbs, so this is probably overkill, but all the Blu-ray players I have tested play the disks without issue.

On a related issue: Is anyone authoring with Encore CS4 on the Mac yet? I had a lot of problems with Encore CS3 and was wondering if things are better in the new version.

Hi Chuck, I'm still saving up to purchase it, hopefully I can let you know my findings by the end of the tax year.

Back to the original issue, would you share all of your Compressor settings for Blu-ray compression? Perhaps a couple screen shots maybe?

Ron, everything should be the same as standard def except the final size of the image and the bitrate. It's still an MPEG-2 file. You can try and use H.264 for encoding but I have found that it's extremely slow. I wouldn't recommend using it unless you have a render farm in your house. Wink

And as somebody else mentioned, since you are capturing at 25 mbps there is no reason to export at anything higher. The camera already compressed the image and threw away data when you were shooting. A higher bit rate is pointless.
