Burn file to dvd to download on Win Can't Post

This one is getting me a bit frustrated.
I have to get a movie file to my music composer.
If I transfer the file to windows through network, it works.
The problem is I have to send it by post. So I decided to burn the file onto a DVD so the composer get his DVD and download the file to its window PC.
The problem is that the PC cannot get the file out or open it...
Any idea why the PC cannot get the file out of the DVD burn on Mac?
Any fixes?
Thanks
Guy

There are several possibilities.

First, make sure that the file is in a PC-readable format. We've come a lot closer, but some PC's aren't running QuickTime, for instance. The program that will be using the clip also has some say. Speak with the composer to determine what works for him. Probably the best/safest formats will be .mov or .avi.

Second, make sure you're burning the DVD in a compatible format. You should have a cross-platform option (assuming you're using Mac OS X) so make sure you're using it. You could also try burning with Toast. I'm guessing that you're creating a DVD-ROM.

PCs are plenty capable, but they sometimes lack the cross-platform tools we take for granted. Expect this and look for what isn't supported and whether the tools present are up-to-date.

More specifics would help...

There is no compatibility problem with the file itself, but with the way it is burned onto the DVD. If I burn the same file type on a CD, no problem when reading from PC. The compatibility issue reside with the burn onto DVD. So is there a standard in the way the mac is burning DVD, can it be altered?
I am using a Powerbook G4

Assuming that you are burning the DVD in finder, the default setting is supposed to be PC-compatible. Check the settings in the dialogue window.

Most Macs (except those with the new dual layer burners) can only burn DVD-R disks. It is possible that your composer can only read DVD+R. If this is the case, one of you needs to find a way to adapt.

This is possibly a stupid question, but, does the composer has a dvd rom or dvd burner in his computer?Crazy

There's a big difference between dumb and uninformed, which is what you appear to be - so here's some information:

DVD-Video and DVD-ROM are just formats, and both are supported by most burners and authoring/burning software. It's even possible to burn a video onto a DVD-ROM along with other unencoded data. Study the user's literature with the authoring software to find out how for your system.
