First, Waldemar's suggestion is a good general fix-it for erratic system behavior. About the only "negative" thing it does (as I recall) is reset the default system font - hardly a big deal. I don't use iLife much and I don't use iMovie at all, but my wife does from time to time at her school, so this isn't exacting advice. If I were walking up to your system, I'd probably start by using searchlight to locate all files with the same name as your movie, then start loading them to QT to determine their specs using Show Movie Info from the Window tab of the menu bar. Once you know what you've got, diagnosis will be easier. One thing you may find is that the MPEG-2 version of the movie is stored inside the iDVD app (unless you knew this and moved it.) As far as an Alias goes, if you deleted the source material that the Alias referenced it should have a question mark as part of the icon to indicate that it lost its source. It shouldn't have any info whatsoever to work with. I just tried what you describe in iMovie5. Of course, it worked fine... My guess is that the file you're working with is damaged or in the wrong format. I guess that puts us back at Spotlight... Wish I had more for you. ______________________________________________________________ Currently on a loaded 2.5GHz G5 dualie/5GB/1TB internal RAID/dual 19" monitors.
