Color Change Can't Post

Im trying to fade clips from color to black and white in FCP and cant figure out how to do it. I thought I could set keyframes and put the layer over the clip but that doesnt seem to be working. Can anyone help me out? Thanks.

Put a filter the original clip and keyframe the filter. Do not use layers.

There are two easy ways to do this, using different filters.

If you have already done your color correction, then simply keyframe the Saturation from its current setting to zero over the desired duration of the fade.

The other is to simply apply a Desaturate filter and keyframe that.

No layers are required.

Sorry for the late response.
I use Final Cut Express and there is no ability to keyframe this filter. What I have to do is cut the clip and apply a Colour Tint filter to the second half to black and white. The I put a cross-dissolve between the 2 clips, but make sure not to have it too long. It's not perfect but gives the effect I'm looking for. I also need to play with things when I want to achieve the pleasantville effect. There is no 3-way colour correction filter. Again, I can achieve close to what I want for now. Next year I am upgrading to Final Cut Studio. Can't wait for that.
