Compression Can't Post

I'm a newbie with a perhaps dumb question. I just imported a VHS movie via VideoShop 4.5. It took 165MB. I did a small edit and saved it as Quicktime movie using Sorenson compression. It got down to 6.5MB, which I uploaded to my webpage. It took about 30 minutes to upload. Is there a better method of compression or am I on the right track? Any hints will be greatly appreciated. Thank you.

Re: Compression Can't Post

The sorenson codec is the best for putting high quality video on the web. But there are some other things that can help make your movie smaller. Make sure your frame rate is 15fps or 10 or 7.5. The less motion you have the lower frame rate you can get away with. If your video is half size (640x480) that is good but making it slightly smaller with the same aspect ratio (4:3) can shrink the size. Compress the audio also. Using quicktime 4 pro($29) you can compress using QDesign for music or Qualcomm Purevoice for voice. Finally experiment with the level of compression you apply with the sorenson codec. I sometimes do tests to see what the different percentages (50%, 40%, 30%) look like. Sometimes you can hardly tell a difference but one is 500K smaller. You are on the right track. to learn more about compression go to terran.com and follow the links to their codec central. Also put a link to your site so others can see how you are doing and learn. -Rob
