Consolidating my 4 internal HDs into two large capacity drives Can't Post

Ever since I installed 2 additional HDs, filling up all the available slots in my Mac pro I've noticed some feint harmonic buzzing sounds coming from my case. It's obviously something to do with all the drives and the small vibrations they create from spinning.

If I touch the sides of my case and hold firmly it stops, and even stays quiet for a minute or two before starting again. Kind of annoying.

Anyway I was thinking about consolidating my 4 internal HDs (250 gig system drive, and 3 500gig drives) into 2 larger capacity high-density platter drives. Particularly the Samsung Spinpoint 1TB F1s.

My question is- if I simply yank out all the drive and pop the two new ones in, can I simply boot from the Leopard disc (holding the "c" button, if I remember correctly)? Or so I have to format the drive manually first? Thanks in advance.

That should do it Elliott. So you are pulling out your system drive as well then? Also the buzzing could be a bad fan. I have 4 drives in my mac pro and don't hear anything like that.

It could be a fan but touching the side of the case shouldn't make it immediately stop. Thus the reason I think it's some sort of harmonic vibration.

No I would never do that Glen. Just thinking what a waste of white paint not to do something with it. I don't like peer pressure though. Don't get me wrong, a white vehicle is sharp.

That is the way. You can format it from the install screen of the DVD. If you want to transfer your system disk, use SuperDuper. Amazing program. I bought a license for it but it is free to use to make a clone of your drive. I use it for daily back-ups.
