Sparky, glad you finally got a DVD burned.
I'm glad to hear that export timeline from FCP to Compressor worked for you, as I tend to avoid it, as I and others have had issues with this process, especially for HD exported footage.
I still prefer and have had success with export to QT as self contained file-----imported into Compressor for encoding to various formats (web, DVD etc.) at the same time.
I don't trust QT to view its encoded widescreen footage until it's converted as it won't display properly. But QT does work well for the initial export encoding.

BTW, when your file is exported as a QT file it is actually still 720 x 480, but anamorphic widescreen. Which means that the pixels are rectangular and not square. So the initial file ,QT seems to recognize as a 4:3 SD file when viewed in QT player, and thus displayed improperly. FCP displays it properly, though as will Compressor when imported and previewed.
And after encoding to a DVD or other format 16:9 file from Compressor, QT then displays that new encoded file properly.
Screwy but true, considering that QT is creating the widescreen file in the first place. Crazy
