Ron, first this disclaimer: I'm no expert on these things but I'll share with you my understanding of it. Journaling helps track everything on the hard drive so that an application like spotlight can almost instantaneously find things you are searching for. This function isn't needed for media drives and could theoretically slow down how fast the drive can write and read data. Now, on the other hand some RAID manufacturers actually recommend turning on journaling for their products. But generally for a single drive used as a media drive not in an array journaling isn't recommended. Bill Carnicelli Carnicelli Media Productions Inc
