No. Journaling is good for your system drive but is not recommended for media drives.

What type of HD Terry? Is it a SATA drive in a firewire or USB enclosure?

Oh I see. I was trying to figure out if the iMac will support a Serial ATA express Card Adapter such as this one from FirmTek

http://eshop.macsales.com/item/Firmtek/SATA2SM2E/

If it did, then you could connect external eSata drives/enclosures to your iMac.

Re: [Ron Priest] Enable Journaling on new Hard Drive [In reply to] Can't Post

Ron, first this disclaimer: I'm no expert on these things but I'll share with you my understanding of it. Journaling helps track everything on the hard drive so that an application like spotlight can almost instantaneously find things you are searching for. This function isn't needed for media drives and could theoretically slow down how fast the drive can write and read data. Now, on the other hand some RAID manufacturers actually recommend turning on journaling for their products. But generally for a single drive used as a media drive not in an array journaling isn't recommended.
