Event Videographer / Motion users... Can't Post

Howdy,

How are you integrating Motion into your programs?

Hi Joel

I am ashamed to say I don't use Motion at all. Not sure why.

Ditto. I guess I just don't see a need for it for events. I was hoping someone could say I'm nuts for not taking advantage of it and show me why...

I am not using it either. Learning it was one of my goal this winter but other things popped up. Maybe next winter.

i Joel,

I don't use it a ton, but I do like it for titles. I have also used a lot of the flashy behaviors and backgrounds in it for a handful of projects. I can't se eusing it much for events though.

I use motion from time to time foe DVD menu designs. It is nice to design an animated menu and then drop that into studio pro.

Tried to use motion to do some effectost a highlights clip and it never ended up working out.

BTW Joel, I've been trying to get in touch. If there a good time to call?

I can recommend a few possible uses :)

Overall concept: One thing I have wondered about is creating a much more connected package with an event product. Something that has a signature look and feel that is subtle at times and comes to the surface on others. I think Motion could be an essential component for this but, this is very conceptual and not as practical as say "I can render out titles faster" or "I saved 3 hours by using Motion to do this...".

Opening Titles: You can create template openings in Motion that are fantastic. FCS 2 will make this a wonderful relationship with the ability to use Motion templates inside FCP and make changes to the drop boxes and text elements.

Transitions: You can do more interesting transitions with Motion than come with FCP. It might be a nice way to create a signature feel.

Photo Montage: Motion 3 will become a very interesting montage tool in my view. Not just with the 3D space but also with the particle enhancements, vector paint, match moving, etc. This release is really big when you consider the whole.

DVD menus: Clearly an area that can benefit from more graphical treatments. There are many of the templates that will translate well to DVD. These would enable you to go beyond the DVDSP templates or enhance them.

I dunno. There are a lot of possibilities I could think of but, they all require familiarity and time. I think I would be one of the most unprofitable event videographers because I would spend far too much time with project.

Hi Joel,

Started using Motion lately for opening titles etc. As another stated, the options are amazing and the results are superb. Still, takes a lot of RAM and when layers are stacked I've noticed it slows quite a bit. Still, I only use the lowly dual 1.8GHz G5 with 3.5G of RAM. If I could get the compression settings right for a file I could send you an example. Many of the tutorials on the Ripple training website use motion for the opening titles.

Sean.

We use it for all of our custom DVD menu designs and our text. I wish the workflow was easier to use some of the effects for photo montages, it looks like the new release of FCP 6 has a better workflow where you can open motion from final cut.

Motion has got to be the coolest program that I "don't" use. Unsure

Just because I can afford Motion, doesn't mean I actually have to learn it does it? I got half way through the tutorial a couple of years ago. Oh well, I thought I would be HD by now so what else is it that hasn't happened? I haven't bought FCP 6 yet.
