Exported WMV turns green over time Can't Post

I have the full version of Flip4Mac installed. Today I exported an edited piece from my FCP timeline to a scaled down WMV file. In each scene in this clip, the skin tones slowly turn green over time. Once a scene change occurs, skin tones go back to normal. What gives?

Edit: I did a search and found out it is a bug that only happens with 2-pass. Switching to 1-pass fixed it.

Dave:

I've had this problem and posted in this forum back in Nov 2006:

http://www.videouniversity.com/forums/gforum.cgi?post=332298;search_string=flip4mac;#332298

Basicly, there is a known problem with 2-pass VBR out of F4M that can be circumvented by downloading an earlier version. Instructions are in the post.

Have you tried the Episode products from Flip 4 mac? They are actually pretty good. Unfortunately, there isn't a "one stop shop" for compressing on the mac at this point but, Episode Pro comes pretty close.

Hi Dave,

I use Flip4Mac, VirtualDub, Cleaner 6 and none of them makes something I don't see flaws in. Like George mentioned Episode might be the answer. The best way seems to be to use a PC. I know you don't do much wmv encoding...

Boy. Am I ever glad I read this thread AFTER I paid for Flip4Mac. Mad
I read so many glowing revues for this product, and now I finally buy it and THIS!
I guess it's back to Cleaner...

Hey there,

That doesn't mean it doesn't work well. To me the results aren't as good as H.264 or great flash encoding, but its still decent. If you do get results you're happy with let us know the settings you used.

Not like it was a huge investment. I just thought it was funny, that I never read a negative until just after I purchased the product.

Will let you know how I make out and setting info.

BTW: I really like what you were able to do in such a short time with Ron's ad banner...

Re: [Joel] Exported WMV turns green over time [In reply to] Can't Post

Yeah there was already a project where the client (corporate) wanted WMV for the web. After about 3 hours and 38 versions using different settings in Flip4Mac I moved the full rez MOV file on to one of my external drives- connected it to my PC, and rendered a WMV in Vegas. Looked perfect the first time. Could have saved myself a TON of time by doing this in the first place. Thus the reason I'm not abandoning my PC. I think I'll always own at least one PC, whether it just be a laptop or whatever. It's nice to have the flexibility. (Though, I could have just as easily had XP on a separate partiion on my Mac Pro) Hmmm...

How small can XP get? Can you cut out all the non-essential stuff? I got OSX down so it fits and boots on a 1GB flash drive, although if I add anything, like recovery apps or disk utilities, it goes over a gig. Does Windows allow you to boot off of an optical drive (CD/DVD) like Mac? Just wondering if for just wmv encoding this would work...

I believe XP does let you boot off an optical drive. :)
