External monitors through convertor in FCP Can't Post

I am having issues trying to play my timeline through an external monitor. I am using a Sony DVMC DA1 convertor to a monitor but for some reason the video signal is not coming through through the FW cable. I have tested it multiple times through 3 cameras. I went to file>AV settings and clicked the video playback to apple FW ntsc and on the devices tab checked off (meaning turned on) mirror playback, but nothing. Am I missing a step here somewhere? I have had issues for years with various versions of FCP with sporadic external video playback and just trying to figure this out. I have tried it on 2 different machines as well. A 12 inch 1.5 PB running FCP 4.5 and a Quad G5 running FCP 5.4. Any suggestions? Thanks.

Make sure you have this set correctly. Goto the view menu, external video, select all frames.

Here's a quick checklist:

If the deck isn't powered when FCP starts, then select to View>Refresh A/V devices to get it recognized.

Then as Hollywood said, select View>External Video>All Frames

You may experience out-of-sync audio if you're not playing the audio out to the FW monitor as well. To do this select View>Audio Playback>FireWire DV

Apple FW NTSC is the correct Video Playback option in most cases.

If none of this works, check the Apple System Profiler to see if the deck is being recognized on FW.

Post back if none of this works.

I need to give credit where credit is due. I learned this myself from the help of RatVega.Laugh
Otherwise, I would be posting the same question.

Allow me a philosophical moment...

Don't feel like an idiot. What you're doing that requires you to ask for help here is something that about 95% of the people on the internet can't even comprehend. I know a fair number of "experts" in various fields and can state without fear of repudiation that no one "knows it all."

As for me, I'm no good with cell phones, VCRs, and most remotes... Blush
