FCP 6 vs PPro CS2: A+ for FCP's Markers Can't Post

Now that I have Diana Weynand's book "Final Cut Pro 6" my transition from Premiere Pro (PPro) is going a lot smoother then it was using the software documentation itself. BTW, thanks Lisa for recommending this book. Keep in mind, I've never used PPro CS3 only CS2 so my comparisons are between FCP 6 and PPro CS2. But it would be interesting to know if Adobe improved the specific features discussed in this thread as a comparison. Therefore, if you have experience with PPro CS3 and want to respond to it's improvements, please feel free to do so.

In this post, I wanted to give FCP an A+ for it's marker feature. For those that don't know, FCP's marker feature allow you to assign a name to each marker along with a comment. The name and comment show up as an overlay on the canvas (otherwise known as the program monitor in PPro) when the playhead is resting on the marker. This is really convenient when jumping from marker to marker and seeing it's name and comments on the screen. PPro doesn't allow you to assign a name to the markers only numbers and then you must manually open each marker to read the comments.

i mentioned the book too.... sniff... seriously though, I am glad you are enjoying your FCP transition. I honestly thought the markers and comments deal would be present in every editor....I guess I am so immersed in FCP that I never dive enough into other suites to know. I would be sunk without markers and comments for the markers

Yeah, well that's why I wanted to start this comparison thread. Maybe my green eyes can see differences in the two programs that others aren't aware of and that may add some benefit to their decision on whether or not they want to switch NLE. I've been using PPro for quite a while now, so anything new or different in FCP stand out to me like a sore thumb, and I'll be happy to share those insights.

Yes Tim you did, and I appreciate it! I finished 13 of the 14 lessons a few days ago. I'm glad I did them all if order, because it was kind of like algebra, if you don't do it in order from the beginning, you'll miss some important steps along the way and will be a little confused if not lost. I did actually skip 1 lesson and came back to it after somewhere around chapter 10. After coming across a few items here and there where I had no idea what she was talking about, I realized right away the material was covered in that chapter I skipped. So I just have the last lesson to complete and I'll do that before I output my first project here in a few days to DVD.

I enjoyed the book so much I've ordered and received Final Cut Pro 6, Beyond the Basics, Soundtrack Pro 2, and Compressor 3 Quick-Reference Guide. I also ordered DVD Studio 2nd Edition but it isn't going to be released until Jan 9th.

Any way, these are very good books, and they have really got me up to speed really quick! I'm even thinking about taking the certification exam after I get a little more practical experience. Book knowledge and real hands on experience is 2 different things.
