FCP always render clips before playing Can't Post

I was aware that FCP had to render effects and trnsition also clips that aren't captured with FCP but why does it have to render clips I've capured with FCP, isn't it supose to play them without rendering, when i dont render them I get in the screen where the video should play the message UNRENDERED.... please help it takes for ever to work every time

That's not good. Recompressing a clip like that would hurt video quality, and introduce compression artifacts.
Is this happening to you? Look at the edge between a detailed object, and a flat color. Trees against a blue sky works well. If your video is being double compressed, you may see little blocky chunks of wrinkled sky around the edges of the tree. Compare this with the direct output of your camcorder (on the same monitor) to see if you are loosing quality.

To answer the question....
(This is explained in the FCP manual). The footage/project has to be at the same
settings - compression, timebase, etc. - from the
capture stage to output stage. That way,
there is no "new" information to process.
Straight cuts can be done and viewed in 'real time.'
Only effects, etc. are rendered.
If you are getting clips into the project and they
won't play immediately out firewire or in
the monitor, that's the first
indication settings are at odds.
