FCP loses screens with minimize Can't Post

Everytime I minimize FCP 5 and reopen it I lose my effects and favorites windows. Droves me nuts. Anyone else notice this bug? One of the many quirks with FCP.

It's not a bug, you don't actually minimize FCP as a whole.

Each window in FCP is seperate. It allows for complex and flexible customizing of the interface. The four main windows start with the Viewer at top center, keyboard short cut cmd+1, and goes clockwise from there with the Canvas as cmd+2, Timeline window as cmd+3, and the Browser as cmd+4.

Once you learn the interface properly, it actually helps make editing jobs faster and easier.

My column in the January '07 issue of Event DV actually shows how to create a custom window layout for making keyframing work much easier based on this feature.

I am still confused as to why I have them open, then hide FCP for a second, then maximize it again and the effects and favorites panels are gone and the other windows are still there. Its a bit of a PITA.

Hide and minimize are two different actions, which are you doing? Clicking the center button at the top left of the window, or using the Hide command from the Apple menu? What you discribe is not normal behavior, so I'm trying to figure out what exactly you're doing. I'm trying to duplicate it and can't. Can you please step me through what exactly you are doing?

Re: [Bill Kinkle] FCP loses screens with minimize [In reply to] Can't Post

I set up a hot-corner in the upper right so that if a window is open but maybe out of place you can quickly drag your cursor to the corner and "reveal all windows". If you do that after you bring FCP back up and it's still not there- tap Ctrl+U to reset it.

Why it's doing this I couldn't tell you. I "hide" FCP all the time but in a different way. This may work well for you. If it's simply a matter of getting FCP out of the way to get to your desktop go and assign the center mouse button to "reveal desktop". Anytime you want to get to your desktop quickly while editing in FCP, press the center control wheel and all your windows cascade neatly out of the way revealing the desktop. I use it ALLLLLLLL the time. This should avoid the issue your having.

Let me know how it works out for you Bill.
