FCS 2 - Question about chapter markers Can't Post

I'm just finishing my first project in FCS 2 (was using Vegas 7). I created the chapter markers in FCP 6, exported to QT movie, and used Compressor for the mpeg and ac3 files (DVD Best Quality 120 min: ave data rate = 5 Mbps, max data rate = 7.5 Mbps)) for a 38 min video. (Worked in HDV and had DVD SP convert to standard widescreen)

When I play it in the timeline of DVD SP, everything looks fine. However, when I use "simulate" or burn to a DVD, the video "hangs" for a split second on some of the markers. I tried going back to FCP and making the chapter markers "compression markers" as well, but that changed nothing.

I tried moving the markers on the DVD SP timeline, but that only changed where the video "hung". What do I try next?

BTW, it took Compressor about 12 hours on an 8 core Mac Pro with 9 GB RAM for that 38 min video. Is that typical, or am I not setting something up right?

You may have a problem with your render or possibly the markers from FCP. Try exporting without the markers and add them in DVDSP and see if that fixes the problem or makes it worse.. Have you by chance upgraded to Quick TIme 7.2? I know there have been lots of reports of problems in compressor when using 7.2.

something does not seem at all right in your render time. I have the same Mac Pro and rendered 27 hours of footage within 24 hours. I was using FCS1, but the new FCS is supposed to render even faster. It could be DV vs HDV here too. I know that there is a way to make the machine more efficient in compressor 3 using Qmaster, But since I have not yet installed FCS2 (I refuse to upgrade in the middle of my biggest project to date) I cannot tell you exactly how to do it, but I remember it involves setting up a virtual cluster in Qmaster. I am currently looking for the article I read a couple of months ago for you.

Hi Tim,

I just found out from someone on another forum that the "momentary hang" problem with the markers was a DVD SP issue:

"sounds like you set the end jump of each marker in the timeline in
dvdsp...you can't do that or you get the momentary hang. Only set the the
end jump on the last marker in your timeline. Dunno why it does this
but it's a common problem in dvdsp
."

Unfortunately, I did upgrade to QT 7.2.

I was playing around with QMaster last night, but I'm sure I have no idea what I'm doing there. I set it up for 8 instances for rendering with Compressor, but when I tried it, the total time looked to be even more than the original 12 hours, after running for about 6 hours. If you find that article, I would love to see it. Thanks for your help.
