FINAL CUT PRO - lower resolutions?? Can't Post

Ok...seems to me that this should be simple..but it's not. Basically I have a large project that I need to digitize at the lowest setting possible alll through DV res. Right now at the highest quality, digitizing is about 220 megs per minute. So, I set everything to the lowest possible amount - dv quality, and the picture size is now about half of NTSC. Still, 220 megs a minute - makes NO difference. What's up with that? In Avid land this is a super no brainer..just do what I did. But in final cut pro land...? Doesn't make any sense to me. & when you play the picture back in the standard movie player it's smaller..SO..shouldn't logic imply that the file would be smaller!?!??! it's not!!! ahh!! Any ideas. Because right now I only have about 3 hrs worth of drive space using DV res...and I'd like at least double that...and it should do it...right?? or is that in the 1.2 upgrade?? Thanks in advance...
