Gateway 21" Can't Post

Any of you folks have this Gateway 21" monitor?

http://gateway.com/...DLCD21W_overview*tab

I currently have 2 Sony 17" monitors, but want to give one to my wife and purchase a new one. I was looking at the Apple screens, but this is a little cheaper. Any reviews/thoughts?

I don't use any flat panels (we have dual 19" CRTs on everything) but I think the market has settled to the point where you pretty much get what you pay for. Guys I know who are running big flat screens say that they got Apple's Cinema Display because it had better specs and looked better.

I had the Gateway FPD2185W 21" LCD (not sure if it's the same model as what you're looking at) for a couple months, but ended up returning it and getting the Dell 24" LCD instead. The Gateway LCD's image quality just didn't do it for me. Been MUCH happier using the Dell 24" with my G5.

I've heard there's a Dell monitor which is basically identical to the Apple cinema displays but much cheaper. Look around the internet and I'm sure you'll find out model # and so on. The Dell monitor also can flip around 90 degrees which is good for writing, or doing serious layout in Adobe Illustrator, among other things.

Thanks for the replies everyone. I was thinking of staying with dual displays with whatever I choose.

I see the Dell 24" are close to a grand. Still cheaper than the Apple 23", but dont think my pocket can take a 1900 hot right now. If I get 2 of the Dell 20.1" I would be looking at about 900 bucks - more in my budget right now.

Todd, what exactly do you like about the Dell over the Gateway?

Re: [Corbs] Gateway 21" [In reply to] Can't Post

The Gateway build quality was kind of lame - ex. the cable management in back of the monitor, although it looks like it's a molded part of the support arm, is actually a plastic hoop attached with double-stick tape. I found this out after running several cables through it and having it pop right off.

Like the Dell, the Gateway has a lot of inputs - DVI, Component, S-Video etc. DVDs played through the component input on the Gateway looked awful - much better on the Dell.
The controls for the Gateway are on the side of the monitor as opposed the Dell's which are on the front and easier to access than the Gateway.

I also like how Dell's color settings include a setting for Macs.

The extra real estate you get from a 24" screen over a 21" doesn't hurt either.Wink

OK everyone...
I purchased teh Dell 20.1" Widescreen last night. It is supposed to ship out on Tuesday the 28th. I'd better like it or all of you are in trouble Wink. But seriously thanks for all your input, it helped form my decision.

Hopefully I will bring in some income so I can purchase a second one by Springitme!!
