HDV->DV->HDV - Same Day Edit/Timecode Madness? Can't Post

So we have our first wedding using our brand new A1's coming up on Apr 5th. Of course, we will also scheduled a SDE for this one because we are crazy like that.

So here is what I am thinking. I am going to use the HV20 to capture and downconvert into the MBP and edit the SDE. I am going to downconvert for sake of render times since I like to put an effect or two on the footage and render it out to DVD.

My question is: Is it possible in FCP to use the SDE's timecode to recapture the footage in HDV once I am back at the studio in order to put the HD SDE on their final DVD?

How's that for acronym soup?

ahhhhhhhh

hmmmmmmmm

I gotta think about what this means. Can you be more specific. Going for a walk and see if I can come up with an opinion on this.

I'm almost certain the answers no... I seem to recall some weirdness between SD and HDV timecode and FCP but I can't remember what it was...

Your basically looking to do a kind of offline edit I think... that's the workflow you may want to research...ask over at dvinfo too as there are a number of people familiar with this type of practice.

Cheers,
Scott

Yes, you can. When you get back to the studio just trash the original SD footage. Change your capture settings to HDV and then reopen the project and you will see that your file now has a red line through it. Just highlight it and recapture it in HDV.

It is possible as Kenny described above. Remember to change your Sequence Settings to HDV as well.

Yes... be sure to mark your clips and tapes appropriately.

Also just incase someone searches for HV-20 and find this thread. If you have trouble capturing HDV with the HV-20 in FCP, set the easy setup to "HDV - 1080i60 FireWire Basic".
