HardDrive crisis/? for G3, Final Cut Can't Post

Okay, so I'm stumbling forward with a mind towards desktop non-linear editing (analog VHS in/edit/back to analog VHS). Using a 350mhz b&w G3, got my hands on Final Cut Pro and there's a Sony DVMC-DA1 on the way. However, I only have a 6GB hard drive in that G3, and I know that won't fly. Please help if at all possible...
1. In order to produce a clean, viewable (but mind you, it's analog VHS to start and end with so it doesn't need to be super-pristine) finished product what time:storage space ratio can I expect from my dumped video? (or, how much hard drive space will my analog VHS occupy once pumped into my hard drive?)
2. What would be my least expensive storage solution? Is USB viable or would its lack of speed make the operation impossible? If not USB, is FireWire viable?
3. What about storing raw footage to CD? Is that ridiculous?
I realize this is long and I admit I'm horribly naive about this stuff; hopefully somebody out there can take a moment and nudge me in the right direction.
Gracias!

I have a similar setup. I think you should spend the $520 and
get a 37.5 gig IBM Deskstar internal HD from Promax. That's what
I did. It's enough room for a couple hours of footage. You hook
it up internally and it's plug & play, no drivers. Works great.
Good luck! Kevin
