How do I get started? Can't Post

I just bought a JVC Mini DV camcorder (GR-DVF-31) and want to send still photos and video to a Mac. JVC is clueless about non-PC options. Can anyone point me toward some resources that will get me started? (FYI, I've got a creaky 1995 PowerComputing Power 120, access to a G3 at work, and I'm considering buying a G4).
Thanks!
P.S. If I can't figure out how to get images of our baby from the camcorder to the Mac, then my wife's gonna make me return the camera... please hurry! ; )

I use Radius (now Digital Origin) PhotoDV. It puts still photos into Photoshop via fire wire. You do have to install a pci board for the firewire (unless you get the G4 or G3.) and you need Photoshop.
For video, I use EditDV but this might be more money than you want to spend. I have Strata Video Shop that came with my old Mac. I have never used it so I don't know anything about it. I will never use it so if you want it I would be happy to mail it to you. Just contact me by my e-mail and we can talk more about it.

I just started out also. Wanted to capture VHS video thru my Mac with the idea of grabbing still snap shots from the videos. They are sensational. I use InterView by XLR8 ($99) and it comes with Strata VideoShop included in that price. No video output yet. Images good for EMail and Web. Great if you have your own family web page.
