Insufficient content for edit Can't Post

Can't figure this one out. I get this error message when trying to drop any type of transition into the time line. All was going well earlier in the time line and now I'm getting an X over it. Yes ... both sides have been MORE than sufficiently trimmed. I'm wondering if I inadvertently hit a wrong key that's messed this up for me.

Any other reason other than not having trimmed enough off of both clips?

Im a little confused by this statement. I believe you'll get insufficient content for edit when there is not enough handles at the end of the first clip and the beginning of the 2nd clip.

Im a little confused by this statement. I believe you'll get insufficient content for edit when there is not enough handles at the end of the first clip and the beginning of the 2nd clip.

Perhaps stating it improperly. The clips were dropped into the time line ... about 17 of them. It's just a live band and no editing other than tightening up the down time.

After putting them into the time line I shortened the clips (by grabbing the handles) and was dropping transitions between each of them.

For whatever reason ... I can no longer drop a transition of any kind without getting the above message and when I attempt to pull an effect from the browser and place it over the cut ... I get an X and it won't let me drop it.

Update ... I rebooted again to see if anything changed ... it didn't.

What is also happening is that if I attempt to grab the handle and pull to the left to shorten the clip ... when I released the handle ... it shortens the clip by 5 minutes. I can use the R key (is that ripple?) and I could change the length that way, but can't grab the handle without the clip disappearing.

As a matter of fact ... when I pull on the handle the clip doesn't even move ... it just stays there till I release it and then the clip gets shortened by over 5 minutes.

I have no idea what's going on ... but I'm guessing my next project will end up being in Final Cut Express. Unsure

Well... R by itself is the Roll tool. Maybe you need to reset your preferences? Do you know how to do that? I would have to look it up.

Actually it was the double R tool.

Another anomaly ... I double clicked on the clip in the timeline ... brought it up and it only played partially through the clip then stopped. I deleted the clip in the timeline and made a new one and was able to make it work.

It could very well be time to trash the prefs. It's not something I've done that often, but then my computer doesn't get the workout that many other do.

I can get my DVDs done today and then trash them before my next edit.

Thanks

I have had this happen to me as well... it was a while ago and for the life of me I can't remember how I fixed it. I always searched the apple discussions boards as a first step. I probably found the solution there.
