Interactive Video Can't Post

I have been challenged with creating a interactive training DVD for an nonprof. What I would like to do is shoot the individual speaking. They may ask a question or go thru a scenario and then a series of buttons will appear on the screen. And depending on which button the viewer chooses, they will be taken to the next "chapter"or series.

If they answer the question wrong, they will get a clip that says please try agian, or maybe a brief explaination of why their answer was wrong and it would loop back to the question again.

Have any of you ever done anything like this in the past, and if so, was it worth the time and effort?

That requires a fair amount of scripting and authoring in a very robust DVD program. It's doable but a project like might be better being billed by the hour as the project progresses.

I haven't done something quite like this, but I would love to. There is so much perceived skill to putting something so technically intricate together, that you should be able to give a quote that covers your time and effort nicely. Bonus is, in my mind anyway, that it would be a lot of fun. I'm always after new things to drive creativity. Makes those long spells of Wedding editing less of a drain. Of course, unless you just charge by the hour, make sure you know exactly what you are in for before giving a quote.

I did something like this a year or two ago that was a "study guide" for video subjects. You would look at a science lession, then answer a series of questions to determine if you had gotten the essentials. Correct answer took you forward, incorrect answers took you to a short (seconds) review of the specific point in question then back to the test.

In the short "concept proving" stage, I built a DVD using DVD Studio Pro 3 that had something like 33 menu levels... It wasn't that bad after I got the logic tree straight for the sequencing. It did not require any scripting, just some smart design.

We never went forward with the project even though it performed well and showed promise. It was more a politics thing than anything.

If you can do the logic and organization, you can make a worthwhile product. I think the one I did took like 3 hours, so working from an organizational template this should be do-able within reasonable time limits.
