Log & Capture Preview Disabled	Can't Post

Hi All,

Just started a new project. When I went to Log and capture, the L&C capture window opened, it stated the connection was good with VTR and I have control of deck with Log and Capture controls. The problem is that I can't view any video in the L&C window. All I see is the color bars and at the top of the L&C screen it states A/V Unknown. I've reset my Device control is set to Firewire NTSC and all other settings are normal

I trashed prefs, switched firewire cables and tried a second deck but get the same problem.

Any suggestions would be GREATLY appreciated.

Is it set to only capture audio?

Great thought Derek...........I was confident that was the problem but fired up the puter to find it was set as usual to capture video & audio. here's a bit more info:
The L&C window has information across the top as follows:
It show Total Free Space as 370 gig.
Next to where it says, Total Free Time, It has the words (A/V Unknown
The L&C preview screen shows color bars with the words "Preview Disabled" in the color bars
The time code displays corresponds to the time code shown on the deck, so it appears the puter recognizes the deck.
In L&C window the CLIP SETTINGS TAB has both video and audio checked (preview on audio also ck'd)
The CAPTURE SETTINGS TAB is set as follows:
Device Control = Firewire NTSC
Capture / Input = DV NTSC 48khz
THE SCRATCH DISK FREE SPACE states:
370 GB
(A/V) (Unknown)

I've trashed the preferences several times and tried a different deck, all with the same results.

Are you capture in dv? or hdv? Have you tried to do a capture even though it won't give you a preview? I've seen that before, it will capture but not give you a live preview.

Derek,
I'm capturing DV footage.
I tried capturing some footage as you suggested. I'm able to use the controls within the L&C window as normal.
After setting in's and out's for a short clip, I was able to view tape being cued up on deck screen, but the batch capture window never changed from the black screen to the video I was trying to capture.
The deck performed, starting from the In-Point I set, but kept playing and did not stop at the out-point I had set.

My problem is fixed now.
It appears it was a quicktime issue.
Just for future reference, the link below has the article that provided me my answer.

I did not need to do a complete reinstall of quicktime, I just did a software update and it worked for me.

It sounds like it may be a setting problem. The reason I say this is that it says "A/V Unknown" its probably a preference setting or something like that, that is messed up I'm guessing. Sorry I can't pinpoint it.
