Mastering FCP - Sounds like fun huh? Can't Post

Well I've completed all of the lessons in the first APTS Final Cut Pro 6 and tonight started the 2nd book; Final Cut Pro 6 Beyond the Basics. I don't know if I'll ever be able to say that I've "Mastered" FCP but I would sure like to feel that I have.

I just read the first page of this new book, and got really stoked!

"Although you can successfully edit projects in final Cut Pro using only a few of the most basic tools, many other tools and techniques are available to speed your workflow and improve your final product. In most cases, these are compound tools or shortcuts that can perform several steps in a single action. Mastering these can significantly improve your editing experience and take you one step closer to that magical state when you can operate the software as fast as you can think."

I just thought that was pretty cool, and wanted to share it.

That DOES sound really cool Ron. Although "as fast as I can think" is pretty darn fast. It's almost scary to think I could do something that fast. Gonna give me some tips after you've learned it all? Wink

Ha Ha, yeah, now that I think about it, that wouldn't be very fast for me. I need to edit faster than I think. As a mater of fact, I want to learn to edit without even thinking.... well... I kind of do that now don't I? What I mean is, you know how you drive to or from a destinations that you frequent? And after you once get there your thinking, wow I don't even remember the trip. That's how I want to edit. Maybe I need to get some of that stuff Steve Moses use to take in the 70's, or was that a 90's picture of him with the hair? Cool

Only problem with being able to edit without thinking about it is that it will all become routine. You won't be treating each project individually and adding new creative touches. Even when I find a particular treatment (effect/filter. transition, opening, etc) that I like, I will still often do something diferently on the next edit.

Actually it's the exact opposite. because the workflow is so fast it gives you more time to doodle with the video and play with different techniques.

Ron, if you're relatively new to FCP, the most important thing you can learn is how make and edit with a multiclip. It speeds up production like crazy.
