Media Performance Warning when Importing Windows AVI files into FCP Can't Post

I've been successfully importing Windows AVI files into a FCP sequence without any adverse effects (not that I know of anyway). However, I get this "Media Performance Warning" when I import the AVI file of which I don't quite understand.

It says; "The following media files are not optimized for Final Cut Pro. It is highly recommended that you either recapture the media or use the Media Manager to create new copies of the files to improve their performance for multi-stream playback."

So, whatever that means, I'm not doing it and the AVI files import just fine. I would of suspected they would of at least needed to be rendered, but no rendering is required. So, does anyone have any idea why the warning appears?

Hi Ron,

That will happen with any media that wasn't captured in FCP 4 or later. When FCP captures it inserts tags and meta data that are used to identify the format, timing, codec etc. If that information isn't there FCP will tell you. I still capture tapes on FCP 3 that make FCP 5 choke and when I bring those in I get the same warning - as you've found out they work fine.

Your mission is to take your place at the table, pick up your fork, and eat your pie. Do not look to the left and do not look to the right. Just eat your pie. There is plenty of pie for everyone."
