Minimum Mac to edit HDV..? Can't Post

Hi all,

What is the least powerful Mac I can use to edit hdv? I am just talking about cutting up and placing clips. No effects, no transitions.

example: Can a PB G4 1.33Ghz with 1GB ram handle it?

Thanks,

Scott

Hi Scott,

According to Apple - yes.

"HDV features require 1GHz or faster processor and 1GB of RAM (2GB recommended) "

I just finished an HDV edit on my G5 with 3 gigs of ram. While I had no problem with it, it was a little slower than I prefered.

Hey Joel!

this about the contractor thing... I've had people wanting to edit my multi camera HDV weddings with the computer mentioned above... The guy assures me he can do it but I'm doubtful...

Thanks the info.

Cheers,
Scott

As long as no rendering or encoding is involved there is no question that that computer could move the footage around on the timeline and playback dissolves and possibly color correction. There is a guy in town that edits a lot with HDV on a 1.7ghz G5 imac and claims its fine.
