Re: [Scott S] Missing Functions in FCP - Scene Detect [In reply to] Can't Post

as WhitHall said above -

"From FCP 4.5 and onward, in DV mode, you create subclips with scene detection - after capture.
With HDV, the default setting is for scene detect to occur - during capture. "

Re: [Whitwell] Missing Functions in FCP - Video/Audio Used [In reply to] Can't Post

In Reply To
Ron,

Agreed.
Even in the earliest incarnations of Premiere - this was a feature!
Yet, here we are approaching 2008 and...

Hey Whit. In reference to needing to know how many times an audio or video clip is used within a project: I guess it's not that I necessarily need to know how many times I've used a clip in a project, but it's perhaps more important to know if I have omitted any clips in a project. This Premiere ppro feature has always prevented me from leaving out a clip that is important and should be used somewhere throughout the video. Particularly if it's a whole group of clips that has been omitted. For instance, I might think I'm finished with an edit and ready to author it to DVD. Before proceeding, I'll take one more look as the used audio/video column to insure I haven't left anything important out, and realize I didn't use the photo session clips for the post ceremony montage. That's actually happen before.

As I'm learning more about FCP I see that if your browser window is active, it has a find feature in the edit drop down menu. I believe this feature is the answer to my problem. Apparently the find feature will locate any unused media within an entire project. Im I correct in my assumption here?

Re: [Ron Priest] Missing Functions in FCP: Scene Detect on Capture & Media Used Tally [In reply to] Can't Post

Ron, in the FCP capture window there are 3 tabs. The middle tab has a check box that says "create a new clip on stop/start". This is where FCO detects a new scene and will create new clips.

What I do is hit my end point, rewind the tape, hit me in point, and then name it with the bride's last name and the tape number. So when CP is done capturing I end up with Smith 1, Smith 1-1, Smith 1-2, etc.

Then in the finder I do a get info on all and select to hide the extensions. Then I use quicklook to peek atthe clip to see what it is, and then I rename it to something specific.
