Monitor help required please. Can't Post

Hi,

I just purchased a second monitor as it was on sale (19" widescreen for £104). I'm using a G5 mac and have always used the DVI port and the DVI to VGA converter supplied. Now one of the monitors needs to use the ADC port. I got an ADC to DVI converter as I couldn't get an ADC to VGA connector anywhere for reasonable money. I used the ADC to DVI,then a DVI to VGA. The monitor works and I can avail of 2 monitors, but the one connected to the ADC port only shows green (bit retro looking actually).

Anyone have any ideas as to what's wrong? Any help appreciated. Thanks.
Sean.

First plug your new monitor into the DVI-VGA to make sure that your monitor is working correctly. If it is then something is not working with your adapters. Do you have access to a DVI monitor? If you do then plug that into your ADC-DVI connection to test the adapter. Another option is to purchase a ADC to VGA adapter or you could pick up a used Apple ADC monitor off of ebay.

Thanks Bill.
I'll just need to save up for an Apple Cinema display.

Timothy,

Thanks for the reply. What are the connections on the Dell monitor?
Sean.

depends on the size. their 27" has DVI, VGA, Composite and SVideo, and the 30" has DVI only. this is because of the dual link graphics card it requires, however it does have a USB hub and a media card reader. Check it out here:http://accessories.us.dell.com/sna/productdetail.aspx?c=us&l=en&s=bsd&cs=04&sku=222-7175

the 27 is also cool which i thought about until I decided that I wanted to upgrade from my G5 to a mac pro.

Sean, my design dept. which runs on Intel Macs, ahve been running teh '24' Dell monitors for over a year now, and they work great.
Right now Dell has the best monitors going, definitely the best bang for the buck.

I also just picked up a new '24' Dell 2407WFP myself to go along with my 3.4 GHz HT P4 PC and my new 2.66 Quad Core Mac Pro system (run them through a Belkin Soho KVM switcher).

Michael

Cameras: I do use them.
Audio: Yes, it does come with audio if you like.
Software: I am learning...
Support: I need all that i can get.
Computer: MAC BABY!

Hi Michael,

Nice looking monitors and I've read on these forums quite a few times about "expectant fathers and mothers awaiting their new Dell delivery. Very nice indeed. I'll maybe try to pick up one next year. I want to get some sort of steadycam or glidecam this year to provide steadier footage from photo shoots, dancing etc.
Thanks for the reply Michael.
Sean.
