SOOOO HDV or BLU RAY for the Mac? Can't Post

From what I understand, DVDSP can only encode for HD DVD, correct? And there are no HD DVD burners currently on the market, correct? Nor players? So Mac's would only be compatible for HD DVD unless I bought some other authoring program? Just making sure I'm understanding all this right. :)

At present, DVDSP can do "HD-DVD" authoring. There are burners, but they are few and very expensive. Besides, how many folks own HD-DVD, or even Blu Ray DVD set top players? High def DVD is still a long way off, I wouldn't worry about it, personally.

You can author HD-DVD with DVDSP and burn to a standard DVD-5, but it'll only play on a Mac. There are no real, "practical" high def DVD burning solutions at present for either platform. And none of the three high def DVD formats has set top players flying off retailers shelves. What's out there is just too expensive at the moment.

If Blu Ray gains any popularity, I'm sure DVDSP will be updated to do builds in that platform.

There are now multiple HD disc authoring programs for Windows starting as low as $59, and the price of Blu-ray burners and players is dropping quickly. Blank Blu-ray discs are expensive at $15 each but are readily available, making Blu-ray a complete HD delivery solution today. Given all this I'd hope to see Apple announce formal Blu-ray authoring and burner options at Macworld in January, but I have no idea if that's what they're planning.

DVDIt Pro does work - with specific players. A colleague has been doing them for me. This has been our solution and may be until Blu-Ray for mac is a reality.

http://www.roxio.com/enu/products/toast/titanium/overview.html "Roxio Toast® 8 sets the standard for burning CDs, DVDs, and now Blu-ray discs on the Mac."

Read about this in MacWorld mag.

Yeah I saw that a while back but I'll wait until I actually hear about a successful burn. Anyone?

Right on. Me too! I am not going to worry about it until someone asks. Then I will panic (and you will see a flurry of post from me about the topic)
