Scroling titles in FCP Can't Post

How do you get the scrolling titles to stop flickering so much, they look terrible!

First, make sure they're rendered fully, and that you're watching them on an external monitor, not the computer screen.

Next, when you set the color, never use "white". Use a little off white. NTSC has problems with severe changes on fine lines. It's an interlacing thing. What I use is the Apple Crayon box to pick a color, and use the slightly off white that is directly above real white. Once you do that, no one will ever be able to tell. Against black or really dark background, it'll look much whiter than it actually is.

Then, you can try using a very close color or gray drop shadow. It'll help tone down the harsh edges of the text. I've never done this one for that purpose, but I did read it somewhere and it sounded good, so, there you have it.

De-Interlace the text clip in the timeline. That will usually do the trick, along with useing an NTSC freindly color scheme.

And you can also try a super minor blur, not even enough to see. This is last resort. You just want a few pixels along that line to blur between colors. Not even enough to be actually seen.

Again, never judge video color, resolution, text, or anything by your computer screen. Always be doing the final judgement on an external monitor. And although there are now LCD screens rated to edit HD on, they still don't do DV properly.

Another option to selecting an off white color is to reduce the opacity of the white text to 80%. I've done this and it does reduce the flicker encountered on an interlaced tv.
