Tiger Upgrade Now No Firewire (Ext) Video Out Can't Post

Installed Tiger on dual 2gig G5....My firewire drives can be read (connected to "fast" firewire port) however I cannot get external video out (from Fcut to SONY deck to NTSC monitor) while in FInalCut ...This happened after upgrade to Tiger...My SONY DSR20 deck is seen in System profiler as "unknown device." But no video out via firewire (in FInalCut or After Effects).....I've rebuilt permissions, zapped pram, swapped cables and ports, checked for updates (I'm at QT 7.0.4)....Suggestions?

Check your AV presets and make sure that you're you have the correct protocol selected. There are several levels of FireWire comm. depending on your device. Also make sure you Refresh A/V Devices (Command+F12), then select the timeline or Canvas window and all should be well.

"Unknown device" is the normal descriptor for many decks - drives are usually set up to provide more definitive info, decks usually aren't...

A number of people I know had oddities in their presets in FCP5/Tiger after the upgrade, so don't take anything for granted - verify anything that seems odd. One friend found his sequence default specified the wrong field dominance...

Amen, Amen, I say to you...

Never believe that I have ALL the answers or that I don't scratch my head a lot too... Several of the other guys had to re-install QT, but I didn't so that part was lost to me...

Glad that you got it fixed...

Re: [mwieser] Tiger Upgrade Now No Firewire FIXED [In reply to] Can't Post

Hi guys,

I just installed Final Cut Studio last night (waited a long time for this, saved up!!!!) and had a similar issue with firewire. Final Cut Pro would just not recognise the my cameras at all. I got a new cable today and tried that, but had the same results.
So I thought, what the heck, I'll try a new download of Quicktime. Unbelieveable!!!!! Worked a treat!
I'm so glad that this thread was here. Is this a big issue for upgrades to Tiger that affects everyones Firewire ports?
Anyway, thanks for the posting and answers guys.

Sean.

Yes, there was an early edition of QT7 that had a FW bug. It got updated very quickly. You should run your software update (apple menu), as the latest versions of Tiger, QT and FCP are very stable and nice.
