Time Capsule Can't Post

Well I bought a Time Capsule drive over the weekend. Spent all day yesterday getting my network back to where it was and working. It took 18 hours to do an initial Time machine backup of 175 gigs. The other mac I can't even get to backup. Taking it back to the Apple Store tomorrow. Very buggy and a piece of junk in my opinion.

Just an update. This piece of junk is going back to the apple store Friday. Tried to see what it might be like to restore a couple of files and it took forever to even find stuff. Just a heads up for anyone thinking about getting one of these boat anchors.

Do you have to have ... is it Airport installed. That requires you take the machine into Apple for service right?

Hi Ron

No I would just return it for a refund, as I have only had it for a few days. I did finally get it working. The initial backup is what takes so long and then when it decides to just quit, it does and you have to start over. It does have the airport extreme built into it. Incremental backups have been flawless and I am backing up to macs to it.

Hi Bruce.

What Im asking is: If I were to use Time Capsule, wouldn't I have to have a wireless card installed into my Mac? Isn't that the same card that allows you to use the wireless keyboard? That was my understanding so I just purchased an external hard drive for Time Machine. Since I don't have any other Mac's and only need to backup one machine I thought that was the best approach for me.

Hi Ron

Sorry my mind is a bit foggy today from our late night at the Springsteen concert last night.

I think the wireless keyboard uses bluetooth and is not the same as the airport card in the computer. I don't think you need an airport card in your computer to use Time Capsule. You would just attach it with a network cable. You would then have access to Time Capsule as well as the internet, as the Time capsule is connected to your internet cable. But I would just use the setup you have if only one mac is involved, unless you just like buying products with shiny apples on them like I do.
