To iMovie or...to something else Can't Post

Recently my church purchased an iMac DV to make short videos for use during service. By nature these include a lot of short clips, some only seconds long. They also need to have interesting special effects. When I came on board, helping them with their production and editing, I found that creativity was limited. iMovie is a great little program, but there are certain limits. I also am getting terrible audio distortion when the dv camcorder sends high audio levels down the Firewire. i downloaded the audio patch off the apple website, but that didn't help. I guess what I am wondering is, do we need to buy one of those turnkey editing systems or are there other programs we can run on our iMac or is there maybe a pro upgrade for imovie in the works. If you suggest software, please suggest what program and tell me a little about it. Thanks.

I was having the same problem with iMovie until I started to record my audio in 16 bit mode. Now, I have no distortion problems. Have you checked out Final Cut Pro?
