There's always rumors about Apple! I think FCP6 will be announced at NAB. Could be very interesting to see what they do with Shake and their recent purchase of Final Touch. I've read that Shake and Motion could be combined into a single product. I'm sure they'll announce new MacPros with unbelievable power. I'm still waiting for "Mind Control" - I think it and the software does it!

I was at Apple's offices in NYC back in October, and was told by someone I trust that Apple was keeping Motion pretty much as is, and re-writing Shake from the ground up. It may actually keep the name Shake, too. But it won't combine with Motion. They'll be two different price ranges for two different markets. All we know for sure is that Shake is very old and it's code has needed a good update really bad.

I have a stong suspicion that we'll see DVD Studio Pro in a major upgrade. It's also running on outdated code, which is why it takes so long to launch.

The biggest news will be how the new graphics engine in Leopard will change all the video and graphics apps. It'll allow all the Pro Apps like FCP, Motion, etc, to really shine. I expect a HUGE leap forward with Final Cut Studio 6 at NAB, for that one reason.

Yep! Core video is going to be huge with FCP6. I can't to see how FCP taps into the graphics power of the video card.

OMG!!!!!! i HAVE GOOSEBUMPS!!!!! I'M SO EXCITED!!! p.s. I was at NAB 2 years ago when they debuted FCP studio. The night before the trade show opened, they were plastering a 2 story poster of FCP studio on the outside of the convention center. There were major rumors that something was going to be debuted at the show and it was so cool to be there and see it happen and be with all the buzz. I can't wait for this year!!!!!

Not to mention that Apple bought out Final Touch, so I'm sure the color grading abilities of FCP will be a huge gain. And they did some huge license buy out of some company that develops the MXF format, so that means MXF support should have a huge gain, too. I know that Panasonic's P2 technology isn't popular with wedding/event videographers. But for those of use doing documentaries, indie features, and such, it's unbelivabley fantastic. I'm sure there will be even more advances.

For now, upgrade to version 5.1.2 and gain access to all of Motion's "FX Plug" plug-ins. And access to using Conduit inside of FCP. If you really want to geek out, Conduit builds filters directly in FCP from scratch, with a very easy to use Node based interface. I'm having a great time with it! I'll be publishing a tutorial in Cut Lines (Event DV Magazine) in March or May (do to work load, I've had to cut back to every other month with the column) that uses Conduit.

Also in recent FCP news, a new color grading plug in that really rocks is Colorista. Check it out, high end CC'ing in a filter! It's pretty limited at present, keyframing is a hasle, the interface makes you enlarge the Viewer quite a bit, and the demo version has noise in the image, almost too much to evaluate, and no Secondary Color Correction ability. But I hear from folks using it that for simple Primary Color Correction, it's nice, much more sensitive than FCP's already nice 3-Way Color Corrector.
