Absolutley nothing will get you up and running like a real professional editor like the Apple Pro Training Series: Final Cut Pro 5 book. Ripple is nice, but it's "tips and tricks". The APTS book teaches you the building blocks to create those tips and tricks yourself. Bit of an over generalization there. The Apple book is rather mundane for someone already into video editing - it assumes you've never edited before. But most of us here have, and in particular, most people here are switching over from another program and know that audio needs to be normalized, clips color corrected, and slips and rolls and good capture organization and building blocks for editing. For those switching over, it's just a matter of what menu FCP stores each item in - in which case, a 600 page book is a bit overkill. Somone coming from Vegas, Premiere, etc is better off clicking each FCP menues to know where everything is at and getting a smaller book, short DVD video to acquaint themselves with the interface. The true thing needed to learn a second/third etc editing program is knowing how that program handles workflow techniques and how it can make your life easier and more efficient editing - WHICH IS EXACTLY WHAT STEVE MARTIN/RIPPLE TRAINING DOES - and shows you why it was worth $1300 to buy FCP and spend a few days learning it. It's not Tips and Tricks - Tips and Tricks is something like how to create a manually made Silk and Fog filter using composite modes for example. Ripple training is all about workflow and how FCP handles it and is a must see if you're just starting out in FCP to get full advantage of it as opposed to spending an extra 5-10 hours on a wedding because you're still on a learning curve. Apple Pro Training Series wears Steve Martin pajamas. ____________________________________________________ When Dave Williams Glidecams, he doesn't step forward, he rolls the earth backwards.
