Working between different computers Can't Post

Hi all,

I have a desktop G5 and also a MacBook Pro laptop that I would like to be able to use at different timers during one project. I find that I can't transfer a hard drive between both computers as it complains about software being at wrong releases. I installed my Final Cut Studio on both and got all the necessary upgrades but they still refuse to work. I also have a disc printing utility called Discus of which I try to swap files between the 2 computers, but again without any luck. I made sure also that I only had the one application open on the network. The desktop is a Dual G5 (not the brand spanking new Intel ones) but the MacBookPro is a new Intel version. Will this make a difference to the apple downloads?

Any one have any suggestions as to why this won't work or how any one else transfers work between computers?

Thanks.
Sean.

Re: [seanmac] Working between different computers [In reply to] Can't Post

I am not quite sure why it is not working, I have the same setup (at least for the rest of this week, I am waiting on the UPS man to get here with my 8 core as I am typing now) and have no problems transferring back and forth between the 2 machines. The only time I run into a problem is when I dont notice that I have FCP running on the desktop and try to start it on the laptop, but even then it will pop up an error message about it. I am running on the latest release of fcp 5 (version 5.14). My OS is at 10.4.9, and all other updates are applied.

When you say "Won't work" what exactly does it do or not do?

Thanks Timothy. I think I'll need to investigate this a lot more and make sure that all updates are correct.

GL, for some reason my system complains when I try to open up Final Cut projects on different computers, even though its the same software I've used (not at the same time I might add) and all the updates were requested. When I work on the laptop, save and then try to open on the desktop, it complains that the software is at the wrong release and vice-versa. Would love to be able to work on both as sometimes the laptop is handier to use. I'll try all the updates again and make sure everything lines up.

Thanks.
Sean.

Which version of FCP are you using? Both are the same I assume. Even a dot release will make them incompatible.
