Please Help-ErrorMessagesInPremiere Can't Post

I am a teacher with G4 450's OS9. We are using Premiere. I have a canon elura digital camcorder and a sony media converter(DVMC DA2). Can't get DV out through the media converter. Camera works fine but I don't want to always use it when I want to print to VHS or view on a TV. That was part of the purpose of the converter. Sony blames it on the Mac but since the DV camcorder works, I blame it on Sony. I have heard of this problem with Sony DV Camcorders also. Another huge problem is that my students often get error messages telling them their file is locked or in use by another application. Files will not open even after restart and preference trash.

Re: Please Help-ErrorMessagesInPremiere Can't Post

Hello,
I'm sorry but I can't help you on the problem with Premiere.
But I may be able to help with the error messages and the locked files.
Try to do this while no other programs are running. And if you don't want to close the files you are working on then just click on the computers background.
If it says the file is locked.
1) Click "once" on the file that is locked.
2) Hold down the "Open apple" key and "I".(The "Open Apple" key is on the left of the option key)
3) A window will open.
4) In the bottom left corner of this window there should be a box with with a check mark in it.
5) The words next to the box should say "Locked".
6) Click that box so that the check mark is no longer in the box.
7) Now close the window. (If this worked then the file should be unlocked)
If it didn't work then you'll have to do it manually.
1) Click "once" on the file that is locked.
2) Move the mouse to the "Menu bar" on the top of the screen.
3) Click and hold down on "File" in the "Menu bar".
3) Now drag down to "Get Info".
4) Now drag over to "General Information".
5) Now let up on the mouse to open "General Information".
3) A window will open.
4) In the bottom left corner of this window there should be a box with with a check mark in it.
5) The words next to the box should say "Locked".
6) Click that box so that the check mark is no longer in the box.
7) Now close the window. (If this worked then the file should be unlocked)
If this still didn't work then the file might be in a folder that is locked. Just unlock the folder the same way as you did to the file. If the window has the words "locked" are ghosted then the program or file may be in use or open. If the window didn't show that the file was locked or doesn't even have a "locked" box then their may be something wrong with the file or just a minor prob for tech support to help with. Their web site is towards the bottom.
The problem with the file being used by another application. Is alittle different.
Try to quit all programs you are running, and then try to use the file. If it still doesn't work. Then look for a folder that is labeled "Recent Applications" or "Recent Documents". If you can find these folders then delete the files within them. All they hold are Alias' that take up space and remind the computer of which programs have been used.
If that doesn't work then you can go here and get a list of Frequently Asked Questions(FAQ). They can be found towards the right hand of the center of the page.

Or you can go to their "SUPPORT PAGE" YAH!
