Canon XL1/FCP Studio Users! HELP!!! Can't Post

If you are using a Canon XL1 (not XL1s or XL2) with 12-bit audio AND FCP Studio 5.0.2 in NTSC successfully, please post and/or PM me.

I have a friend who switched from another NLE to FCP and is having severe problems with audio sync from his XL1 with audio recorded in 12-bit (4 channel audio) mode. He has no problems with material recorded in 16-bit audio, but much of his stuff was recorded with 3 & 4 channels of audio in 12-bit. He needs to be able to capture & run tapes with both settings in the same timeline.

He can't get is system settings to work properly (audio has a fixed delay in 12-bit), while another FCP user using a FCP 4.something system has no problems.

He's tearing out what little hair he has left & is at his wit's end. I would hate to see him bald.

Please help!

Thanks!

Steve

I don't think the problem is restricted to The XL1, but is symptomatic if "odd" audio. The native audio format for FCP is 48KHz/16-bit.

Is your friend using (or creating) the correct preset to capture his footage? Secondly, do the sequence settings correctly reflect the non-standard audio?

I get a lot of weird combinations in my post-production work and frequently "pre-convert" the really strange stuff using QuickTime. This makes many things easier...
