cross dissolve question Can't Post

I'm doing a photo slide show and I want to cross dissolve all the photos between each other. Is there a way to drag the transitions onto all the clips or do I have to do them all individually? It's very tedious to keep dragging the cross dissolve filter onto each clip.

My first suggestion would be to check out Animoto. I love this site and I love the slideshows they make. It really takes something boring and brings it to life.

My second suggestion would be to use iMovie 09 instead. Once you create a project in the project properties you can choose to have a dissolves added whenever you add a photo. And if all the photos are in the right order you can drop them in right from iPhoto. djust the length to fit the music, and BOOYAH! Done! You may want to go in and check the Ken Burns effect to make sure that nobodies head is getting cut off.

But in FCP the easiest way is to apply the dissolve to one clip, then option + drag the dissolve onto the next one. It's not the easiest but it's better than going to the browser for every clip.

sett the cross disolve of your desired link as your default transition in the effects tab....now use command + T to add the transition at the cut lines. the up and down arrow keys will take you to the correct spot on the clips to add the transition

Or just use Vegas.

Just kidding...I'm bored and drinking beer during lunch, and just wanted to see what it's like here on "Kenneth's forum".

Just make sure to charge for photo montages...or it makes Rusty angry. Rusty hates photo montages...especially when they're "included" in a wedding video package. LaughLaugh I started charging for them...and haven't done one in years. Animoto looks cool though...if I were a full time wedding photog I'd be using Animoto and charging at least twice just for the montage than what the bride pays for a wedding video.

I used to hate photo monatges. But since Animoto came along I can charge $100 and pay $8 to have the stupid site do it for me. Now photo montages are like free money, except that free money costs me $8.

Laugh

I'm definitely going to check them out in the future. I think you mentioned something about them only providing standard def videos. Do you just leave them letter/pillar boxed in your videos, or do you expand them to fit HD. (Not that most people could ever tell the difference...and it wouldn't matter unless they are watching a BD)

My guess is that they'd start offering them in HD soon anyways.

I used to do free photo montages with the clients' honeymoon pictures...but that's because I didn't go on a date for 3-4 years...and people sent me some pretty "nice" pictures! LaughLaugh

Yo get them in 16:9 aspect ratio, but at 480p. If anybdy ever complains about the picture being blurry I will just blame it on their scanner, since I refuse to scan pictures now.

Select all the clips in the timeline and then drag it into the "Overwrite with transition" in the canvas window. Your default transition will be applied.

Way to go Bill! I was trying to think of how to say this without making it too complicated. This is the easiest thing to do and takes all of 5 seconds. Just make sure that your play head is at the beginning of the photos.

Thanks you guys, you all rock. I finished the slide show before I got these tips, but I'll definitely use them next time!
I honestly don't know why people buy these, anyone with iMovie can make them. I charge $500 because I hate doing them, and people still buy them. Go figure.

Actually select all the clips in the bin and drag to overwrite with transition. Do it as your putting them on the timeline.
