editDV primer? Can't Post

Hello.
I am using a new G3 350 with the Sony DVMC-DA1 to capture Hi8 footage in EditDV Unplugged (the trial version for now). From what I've read, the interface etc. is the same as the full version of editDV, just without some of the fancier features. I like how the program works (capture has been perfect, no crashes) but I am having problems getting used to the sequencer (timeline). Specifically, I can't get transitions to work without freeze frames. The downloaded manual is very obtuse. I have a premiere background, so I'm used to what I feel is a very intuitive interface. BTW, my version of Premiere is PC, or I wouldn't be bothering with this at all.
Anybody know of a primer page, or a editDV for dummies site? Thanks.
Jason
