final cut pro and the promax card Can't Post

for an awesome, low cost editing system, get the following. apples final cut pro (i got my copy from Ebay, with reg card!) and promax's pci card. buy the drives from egghead.com. you only need 5400rpm drives with the promax card. right now 36 gig drives are selling for $230.00. this is a very powerful system. if anyone has questions with final cut pro, right me! i was one of the beta testers at apple and know the program well.

I thought the G4's didn't require a separate capture card, what with the built-in Firewire and all.
Or are you saying to use the Promax card and a G3? If so, what G3 and configuration do you recommend? What is a reasonable cost for it on the used market? And what, if anything, is the performance penalty vs. the G4?
I'm very ignorant about Macs, so I need all the gory details. Thanks!
Regards,
Doug Graham

hello doug,
the promax card is a pci card that you will hook up the eide hard drives to. using this card, you can use low cost 5400 rpm, eide hard drives that have the data rate to work with dv video.

I am soliciting a comment from the community.
I have a Umax Supermac J700 that has been upgraded with a Sonnet G3 250 Mhz. I have bought a Western Digital firewire that comes with Adobe Premier LE.
I have 2 gig SCSI hard drive and thinking about adding a Promax card and IDE hard drive.
What kind of HD should I buy, Ultra DMA 66, 33 ?.
Do you have comment on this set-up ?
Do I have enough muscle with only a 250 MHz G3 ?.
Thanks.
