iMac- 17" or 20" Can't Post

Thinking about picking up the girlfriend an iMac for her birthday. Is the 20" worth the extra $400? (larger screen, slightly faster processer, and larger HD)

If she's worth an iMac, yes! Cool

Actually, the answer is yes based on the fact that upgrading the screen isn't possible and swapping HDs is a real chore.

This assumes that she wants the larger screen; some do, some like the petite look. I had a wife once that wanted me to buy her a mono tape player when the majority of them were stereo. Go figure...

It was definitely worth it for me, but then that depends on what she's going to do with it. As always, intended usage should drive your decision.

I just purchased the 20-inch about two weeks ago. I LOVE it. Of course, I was upgrading from a G4 iMac (15") Tongue.

Now I'm encoding/burning DVDs at light speed compared to what I was used to.

Another idea if she doesn't need to use her iMac as an NLE like me, and if she would be overwhelmed by the size of the 20" is to get her a MacBook. Rumor has it that they'll be out next week. In fact, I'm planning on getting one of those for my wife just as soon as I can secure the funding Wink.

Got the 20" iMac. It's awesome! I love it! I'm jealous because I like it more than my brand new Mac Book Pro! Shocked

I'm actually posting from the iMac right now. Cool

Looks like there is a trend. We picked up the 20" today also for SDE's.

Sweet. You're going to love Safari. Cool

The smooth text rendering alone is worth it over IE/Win.

Safari sucks and crashes alot. Get Firefox, it rules.

Cheers,

Safari doesn't suck. It passes the ACID2 test and fully WC3 compliant.

Acid testing and compliance don't mean anything while it's sucking and crashing more than firefox. I'm sure apple will get it right at some point but for now firefox rules.
