keep getting capture failure errors Can't Post

I started capturing a tape (using capture now) and after every 3 seconds, the capture bombs saying there may be a problem reading the tape. I used to get this error occasionally when batch capturing, which is why I switched to "capture now." With capture now, at least anything captured up to the problem point would be on the computer.

Now, I'm getting the message every 3 seconds. I thought it may just be the tape, so I tried a different tape from the same wedding. Same problem. So, then I switched to a tape from another project that I know for sure I successfully captured before, and it too is bombing now. Leads me to believe it's a computer thing. I've repaired disk permissions and restarted the computer, but still have problem.

I'm using:
FCP 5.0.1
Dual 2.5 Ghz PPC running 10.3.9
1 GB of RAM
My capture device is a Sony TRV 20 consumer camcorder

Any ideas?

I discoverd the problem [In reply to] Can't Post

I discoverd the problem. I tried Terry's, which was to change to "Non controllable device." That, unfortunately, didn't work. So, as I was changing the device control back to controllable device, I noticed that the Capture Setting was set to PAL Anamorphic. I changed it to the regular 48k Anamorphic (NTSC) and voila, we're back in business.

So it wasn't a tape error or computer error. It was what is often the case...user error.

Re: [bladeronner] I discoverd the problem [In reply to] Can't Post

Hey BR

Can't tell you how many times I had similar problems and 90% of the time it turns out to be some changed sequence setting throwing me off. Now I make sure to go through my sequence settings everytime I get ready to capture.

Glad it wasn't anything more than that.
